Fr. Sean Mc Manus visits Marian Price

PIC; International Wall, Falls Road, Belfast, Ireland.

Marian Price was today ( Friday, February 22, 2013) visited by Fr. Sean Mc Manus, President of the Washington-based Irish National Caucus. He spent ninety minutes with her, accompanied by her husband Jerry Mc Glinchey and her attorney Peter Corrigan.

Fr. Mc Manus said: I have been raising Marian’s case with the U.S.Department of State and the U.S. Congress, and I wanted to visit her to show both personal and Irish-American solidarity. My heart was broken and my soul outraged by how this heroic Irishwoman has been treated. This seriously ill, lovely, soft-spoken woman should not be in prison.

Her persecution – yes, persecution – makes a mockery of the Irish peace-process, questions the whole judicial system, and raises doubt as to whether there has, indeed, been a “ new beginning” to policing in Northern Ireland. Surely Peter Robinson, Martin Mc Guinness, David Ford and the NI Secretary of State must know that there is something rotten with their government’s treatment of Marian.”

Fr. Mc Manus added : “ I was so impressed that despite all the inhumane treatment and judicial misconduct, Marian has maintained her dignity and self-respect.”

He concluded: “ When Peter Robinson and Martin Mc Guinness come to Washington for their annual St. Patrick’s Day visit, the hard truth will be this: No matter how nice or encouraging their words, their message will be overshadowed by their government’s treatment of Marian. Her cruel mistreatment will mock their words, telling Washington there is still something rotten in Northern Ireland.”

32csm Scotland - Activism 22/23/24 Feb 2013

The Volunteer Charles Carrigan Cumann (32csm Scotland) were out this week end highlighting issues that strike a cord with the cumann and its members,

Friday 22nd saw the cumann attend a protest in the city against ATOS, Joined by comrades FRFI.
The event was marred by the assault and arrest of 2 FRFI members by Strathclyde Police.

Saturday 23rd The cumann held a picket outside Glasgow city chambers for Irish Republican POWs, the picket was well received, it succeeded in raising the awareness of our POWs, The cumann were joined by other republican groups and indeed independent Republicans who stood shoulder to shoulder to highlight the abuse of power by the pro-british and 26 county governments.

Sunday 24th saw the Volunteer Charles Carrigan Cumann hold the now regular POW picket at Celtic Park, As usual it was well received and gave the public up to date information on the case of Marian Price and Martin Corey, Placards were also held in relation to victimisation of Irish Republicans held in Portlaoise. The cumann were joined by members of the Gaughan Stagg Cumann (32csm) on the day. The success and attitude toward the cumann members and the interest shown in the picket will see it take place until the end of the season.

Arrest of peaceful protesters, Glasgow 22/02/13

The volunteer Charles Carrigan Cumann utterly condemn the premeditated arrest of 2 peaceful protesters at the Glasgow against Atos protest yesterday Friday 22nd Febuary.

The Strathclyde police had a clear agenda and it is the cumanns understanding that this was planned/premeditated, the 2 people who were arrested are prominent supporters of FRFI and there peaceful actions are deemed a "thorn in the side" by the police.

FRFI and ourselves were in the city supporting the discrimination against and fighting for the rights of the sick and disabled, the protest was a peaceful one as many of similar ones which have been held beforehand, the assault and arrest by Strathclyde Police was unjustified and worryingly it is seen to be a tactic adopted by police forces throughout the country when dealing with protesters who have the democratic right to do so.

The arrested members and members of the volunteer Charles Carrigan vow to continue the work started and will oppose and form of intimidation and harassment by the Strathclyde police.

----------------------------------

Anyone who witnessed the arrests today, or the events before or after, please write down a witness statement, and any photos or videos you took. Send to glasgowdefence@yahoo.co.uk

The protest against ATOS continued after the arrests, and refused to be disrupted by Strathclyde police thugs, who continued to trail the remaining demonstrators to the HQ of the Commonwealth Games.

The real criminals - ATOS, the DWP, Glasgow Labour Council and the millionaire government - remain at large.
